Frequently Asked Questions

Q. How long have you been in business?

A. We started Matrix Garage Doors in early 2019 after over 10 years in the industry with other companies. We grew disgruntled with how other companies operated dishonestly and without integrity. We wanted to create a better company, one you can count on.

Q. What services do you provide?

A. We sell and install new garage doors and motorized openers, components of those like rollers, safety sensors and motherboards as well as accessories like keypads and remotes. We also fix broken doors, openers and springs. We will advise you on whether something can be fixed or needs to be replaced.

Q. How long does it take to complete a job?

A. We try our best to complete each job in one trip. However, occasionally a follow up visit may be required. New doors can take anywhere from 2 to 8 hours depending on how big or complex the job is. Repairs take much less time. A spring can be replaced in 30 minutes, rollers in about 15. The more knowledgeable the technician, the less time a job will take them. This doesn't mean they're cutting corners, just that they're very experienced and good at what they do. If you hire someone to fix a broken spring and they take 2 hours to do it, they may not be very good at what they do.

Q. How much will my garage door/repair cost?

A. It really depends on what needs to be done. We will always give you a quote prior to doing the work so there are no surprise costs. We offer competitive rates however, Covid-19 has caused serious supply chain issues that have driven prices up. These are industry wide issues so every company has had to increase their prices. We do our best to keep prices down, but these increases are beyond our control. Call us for a quote and we'll be happy to help.

Q. What materials are garage doors made of?

A. A standard, non-insulated door is made of 2" thick, 25 gauge steel. There are 3 different insulation options; vinyl backed with polystyrene (R-7.94), steel backed with polystyrene (R-9.65), or steel backed with polyurethane (R-16.55 or R-17.19 depending on the model). These are the doors we recommend; however, we also sell wood overlay (steel door with wood on top). These doors can be beautiful but do require more upkeep including painting. They are also more expensive. If you're looking for something different, we also offer full view glass and aluminum doors. These doors can be customized with different types of glass, different colored aluminum, and insulation.

Q. How important is insulation in a garage door?

A. This really depends on what you're using your garage for or if it's attached or detached. We get pretty extreme temperatures here and insulation can help keep that out of your garage. But whether you need that or not is really up to you.

Q. How do I clean my pre-finished steel garage door?

A. We recommend soap and water with a soft rag.

Q. How often should my overhead garage door be serviced?

A. If everything is working correctly, we recommend having it serviced once a year.

Q. How long should my garage door spring last?

A. Generally, springs should last about 6-9 years depending on how often it's used.

Q. How do I tell if the garage door spring is balanced properly?

A. If you pull the red cord to release the door from the opener, then lift it by hand it should stay where you put it, more or less. An unbalanced door will either continue up or fall down. It's best to call a professional if it seems off; going up or down too fast.

Q. Do you provide free estimates for Garage door repairs?

A. We will always provide an estimate prior to doing any work so there are no surprise costs.
